Hands Across the Kitchen Book Launch

Last night was the launch night for our latest project—the Hands Across the Kitchen cook book. The book features 51 of Australia’s most prominent chefs sharing their childhood memories of food and a recipe representing these memories, all in support of Hands Across the Water.

The night was a great success, with a packed Hugo’s Lounge in Sydney receiving the news from Hands founder Peter Baines that the book had sold over 11,000 copies out of the 20,000 printed! Focus would like to thank everyone that came out to share this moment and support Hands, and we are proud to have been part of such a giving project and look forward to supporting Hands further in the future.

Hands Across the Water

Hands Across the Water is a unique charity that assists Thai orphans and their communities. Initially founded to assist the survivors of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami by former Sydney police Detective Peter Baines, Hands now support over 300 orphans and their communities at numerous locations—and have commited to support them for the long term.

Focus was asked to create a cookbook to raise money for the charity, as part of this long term commitment. Accepting the challenge, we pitched the concept of gathering 51 of Australia’s most prominent chefs in one book, offering their childhood memories of food and a recipe based on these memories. The book, named Hands Across the Kitchen was launched on October 27 2011 at a packed event at Hugo’s Lounge in Sydney, where Peter announced that the book had sold over 11,000 copies of the 20,000 printed.

Focus has taken great pride in being part of such a giving project, and we look forward to supporting Hands further in the future.

De’Longhi PrimaDonna S Launch Event

These photos just arrived from the De’Longhi PrimaDonna S and Brillante collection launch event at Balla Restaurant at the Star the other month. We’re so stoked about how great our gift boxes turned out! We also designed all the collateral material for the event—ranging from table cards to the videos showcasing the products on the day.

Heartless parking inspectors

This car was parked right out the front of our morning cafe – read the note….the fine was issued yesterday (says two different times on it, one says 2am and one says 2pm). The heartless parking people ignored the note.

K.W.DOGGETT Paper Festival 2.6.11

We were lucky enough to be invited to the K.W DOGGETT paper exhibition VIP client night. The A4 Paper Festival is running from 31 May to 5 June in Sydney. It’s a unique event that will explore and celebrate paper. The festival offers the public the chance to learn about contemporary developments in the world of paper via exhibitions, lectures and workshops!

There was an amazing collection of large scale installations, handcrafted creations and dimensional graphic sculptures. It was also a great chance to meet and hang out with all of the team at K.W DOGGETT as well as see and meet their special overseas guest- Japanese paper artist Professor Yoshinobu Miyamoto.

Claude’s Presents Liminal Space by Jordana Maisie June 7-18, 2011

Sydney’s iconic restaurant Claude’s presents Liminal Space, an immersive installation by Berlin-based Australian artist Jordana Maisie.

The exhibition will run from June Tuesday 7 – Saturday 19, during which guests can dine within this unique work and experience Claude’s new a la carte and tasting menu.

Guests are invited to support Jordana’s next work Close Encounters, by attending an intimate fundraising evening hosted by Claude’s Chui Lee Luk and Jordana Maisie.

Alexander Seton

Alexander Seton is a Sydney based artist who graduated from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW in 1998. He has exhibited in numerous sculpture exhibitions over the years.

Alex’s practice has earned a growing reputation based upon producing carved marble and synthetic stone sculptures that play on optical illusion and the perception of surface. The work uses the tension and often contradiction between the traditional laborious skill of carving and use of contemporary subject matter and concerns. It is that contradiction that opens the door to questions of the nature of choice, whether it be satire of the ‘monumental’ to questioning the currency of political intimidation (such as in ‘Panoply’ 07) or personal armor (such as in ‘On Hold’ 08). It is in the outrageously implausible realization of concrete barriers, couches, toffee apples, beanbags and doonas, that the possible is called to account.
